You know me, I've always got like 50 irons in the fire, constantly moving and shaking. And you and I have tried to do this episode for, it has been close to a year. And I think it's just an example of how mom life and work life and all the stuff gets in the way. Right.
And, but I'm excited to be on it. Well, I'm glad. And I am so excited not only to have you on the podcast today, but also that you are one of the authors in the second book, No Problem Parenting, resources and stories that create confidence and connection and you have written a chapter. So we're going to talk about that today.
Tell us a little bit about how you turned project management into like mom management, right? What's the inspiration behind all this? I've, I've done project management for 20 years and, um, have always felt like I was the coach or the counselor for somebody. Right. Um, you know, I thought maybe human behavior is always really interested in me. And so I thought maybe I should and a psychologist or a counselor in a different life maybe. But yeah, just working with my girls and then really focusing on what I wanted to achieve and how I wanted to be role model, you know, different qualities for my girls. And, you know, I've just learned that you really can't just, my dad used to think it was funny saying, you know, do as I say, not as I do. And it doesn't work that well. So, you know, you really have to be able to role model what you want in your kids.
And I started really working on myself and my own personal development and really looking into what has built me as the person, you know, that I am today and where I can improve and how I can best role model that for my girls. Which is exactly what your chapter is all about in the book. It's The title is called First Look in the Mirror and Make a Change. Absolutely.
So it really is. And that's what I've found over the years of project management and really having to work with a lot of different personality types and often wearing the hat of a coach or a counselor or a friend or whatever in order to get people to be able to focus on work and get things done in a certain amount of time was to, you know, wear whatever hat was necessary. and as leaders, you know, as we are as parents, we have to go first. So we have to role model, you know, what we want. And that's where I've found, you know, I really have to, working with the moms that I've worked with, you have to have your own goals, have your own self-love, self-appreciation, know that it's important to take the time for yourself,
which is really difficult for parents in general, for moms specifically. And so we can really work on ourselves to be the best person, to be the best mom that we always dreamed to be when we were thinking about having kids, when we were little girls wanting to have kids. And then I found it really changes once you actually have them. I started finding myself lying to myself.
And, you know, if I just get through this one emergency or if I get through this one time that being sick or they're teething or I'm, you know, putting together their birthday party or whatever it is. And I found myself so focused on a to do list that I wasn't getting the time and the memories that I was wanting to create with my kids. And so I really had to start reevaluating what I wanted as a mom and what I always dreamed, you know, a mom life would look like.
Yeah, I love that. And so you're kind of answering the question already that I have for you. What are those main pain points that you see in moms when they come to you that you can help solve through your course and your one-on-one coaching? Absolutely. It's a great question. One of the things I mostly find is just it's guilt. It's not finding that you even deserve the time as a parent, as a mom, to take that separate time to focus on yourself.
because we're so focused on that to-do list. We're so focused on getting the laundry folded, getting the dishwasher empty, getting that next meal made. And we forget the importance of just being present and really being with our kids because that's all they're gonna have at the end of the day are those memories that we helped create. And if we're so focused on the small things that obviously have to get done, then we forget the most important stuff.
So I really work with moms on understanding what it is that they truly value based on what they really want out of life. And so they can then determine how they're going to prioritize things. Because it's really about, I mean, we all have the same 24 hours. And it's really about finding what you truly value, what you really want, what goals you're trying to set, you know, what things you're trying to role model for your kids and finding that for yourself, being able to have any kind of progress toward those goals and being joyful again. We can't be exhausted, overwhelmed, unhappy parents and think that we're going to have joyful kids because again, it's so much of the role modeling And, you know, we're so busy getting trying to get by living in that survival mode that joy is the last thing on our list.
So it's really about getting that that progress towards your goals, taking the time to understand that you deserve to have goals that you're meeting as well, and then finding joy in parenting again. And so you can implement what you want to in your life and really have joy with your kids and create those memories you want. Yeah, I think it's becoming a little bit more accepted or more popular. Accepted, I think, is probably the right word for people in general, but moms, women to reach out, not just I mean, business coaching has kind of always been like, oh, of course, that makes sense.
But mom coaching and really having, it's almost like life coaching, right? But really having that person that you can reach out to and connect with to figure out when you don't know, when you hear things, podcast episodes like this, you read books, you see, you know, live events, different kinds of things that talk about getting the joy back in your life and making yourself priority and kicking mom guilt to the curb and all that.
I think sometimes people go like, yeah, that sounds great. It also sounds expensive. I could not do something like that because I'm spending, I need to spend my money and resources on my kids and all of their things. And we just really carve that time and that resource out for ourselves.
So what do you think it is that holds moms back from really living their lives in joy and with purpose? I mean, is there some sort of badge of honor when we can say to people that we're, you know, all in with our kids? Yeah. Isn't that interesting?
It's, it's something to really reflect on. And I think there's some gender issues, if you will, with that as well, with just how different the dynamic of family is these days. And if you look at, you know, how things were in the 50s and everybody kind of had their specific roles set. And typically it was the father was out making the money and earning the living and the woman, the mother, was at home and taking care of the house and the kids.
And the roles have just changed so drastically. And there's so much more on a mom's plate these days than there ever was. And I think, unfortunately, in that, somehow the male or masculine energy has gotten put to the wayside. And so moms feel like they kind of have to do everything themselves.
and they forget that they can, you know, delegate and ask for help, starting with their spouse. You know, I feel like masculine energy in general, and that doesn't have to be a male or a female, you know, gender thing versus, you know, feminine energy. It's really the energy is more than anything. But the masculine energy is really there to serve and support, and they want their family to be happy. And so, you know, we need to understand that there is a love and a purpose and that role of servitude. And if we just ask for the help that we would get it. I often, we, we talk to our female friends, let's say, and they may just go, Oh, I know. Oh, you know, life is rough and they have some empathy or, Oh, that horrible husband of yours,
it's not helping or whatever, but it's really putting the foot to the fire of how can you as the mom and the wife change things? And if that means you go and ask for help from your spouse and maybe the dishes aren't done exactly how you wanted it, or maybe the laundry isn't folded how you would have done it, but it was done. And that gave you time to, you know, have that love and create those memories with your kids. And that's more of a priority. And I think it helps with the relationship between a masculine and feminine energy as well, because they feel more needed instead of feeling like they're just kind of off on the wayside. And why am I here?
I'm just going to go play video games or go fishing with my buddies because they don't need me here. And so I think it's a lot of just that dynamic has changed and we need to get back to focusing on the family unit and being willing to ask for help instead of putting everything on our plates and how can we control that? And what can we do to maybe delegate some of those chores? It's very important for moms to delegate and very hard at the same time. And it doesn't have to be, it's just a matter of perspective. I talk a lot about this, especially lately that, sort of like that family goal or that, what is your family's ultimate goal or mission even, or, you know, your family values and things. And then, you know, there's, when you create those family values, that's, that's one way to number one, not have to consequence, you know, your kids all the time. Cause you can say, Hey, did that behavior align with family values? But it can also include everybody in the way that you want your family to, to kind of run, right? The schedule,
the, how things are going to get done, how the cleaning is going to happen, how the appointments are going to get scheduled, just like all the things. So it's not mom dominating so much. It's mom being a part of the family too, not just the, not just the ultimate leader. So Tiffany, you have a private mom group on Facebook and you keep it private so that the women in that group really are in a safe place. They have to be approved by you to be accepted into that group because you really vet these, these moms and, and before they go in.
Yeah. So I'm updating my website right now. So I'll have that and it'll be girlmomcoaching.com, But otherwise, yeah, my email of Tiffany at Girl Mom Coaching.
Shoot me an email because that's the main thing I want to, you know, like you're saying, I want to make sure that we get the right people in and we have a very safe space. It's not about competing. It's not about judging. It's not about, you know, the guilt and all that kind of stuff.
It's really about supporting and, you know, raising everybody else up. So we need to really support each other and be there for each other as women, as parents. Absolutely. And so we'll put the girlmomcoaching.com in the show notes.
You can email Tiffany, T-I-F-F-I-N-Y at girlmomcoaching.com to learn more, have a conversation with her, have a good mom talk, mom chat. Tiffany, I'm so excited to have you in our second book. It's just going to be so fun.
