Welcome to the show, Antoniette. Thank you, Jackie. It is a pleasure being on your show. It is to me, one of the top parenting shows and I'm honored to be a guest.
Oh, well, thanks. I appreciate that. We've hit top 2%. I keep sneaking a peek every now and then to see if we've hit that 1% yet. Maybe by the time this airs, we will have, but I'm really excited to have you on here. I met you because of an event that's coming up at the end of May.
And I was super intrigued by this event and I was thinking about going. It lands on another event that I'm doing, so I'm not able to attend in person, but I was excited to hear that it's also a virtual event. So before we get into your background, I just want to talk about that really quick because you are the PR manager for the Holistic Lifestyle Conference and Expo. We connected and I'm like, all right, tell me more about this event. This is a huge event.
This is a big deal. Yeah. And talk about a resource for parents who are wanting to navigate a healthier way to raise their kids, right? So this is East meets West medicine. For those who are actually in the industry of being a healthcare provider, there are CEU credits available. But beyond that, over 8,000 people are going to be attending just to figure out some strategies to live healthier in a McDonald's world. That is definitely nutrition. It also has to do with self-care and self-care should start much younger. Absolutely. And you have some pretty big sponsors for this event. So this isn't just a group of people who kind of dabbled in the health and wellness industry. There's some pretty big speakers, but also sponsors. Right. I'm a speaker,
which is amazing. I'm super excited about that. And then we definitely have a lot of support because this is an evidence-based event, which in itself is pretty incredible. It allows for people to understand that as they get proactive, they can merge allopathic, which is kind of mainstream medicine, with integrative and oftentimes get a better result, right?
As we do our part, our doctors get to do their parts better. So that's really what this event is about. It's bringing together the top minds in health and well-being and medicine overall. But these top minds are ones that are not in a silo.
Like they think their way is the only way. They understand that we need to integrate the different modalities, the different solutions that are out there for us to live our best, most vibrant, biggest lives and for us to be able to empower our kids to do the same. One of the things I noticed with the sponsors and that really, it really confirmed for me that Youths vs. West is like having a sponsor like WebMD and then also a sponsor from BrainTap.
You know, again, those two very different kind of typically different approaches to, you know, health and wellness, lifestyle and care and treatment. Absolutely. And the diversity of topics, too, is seen not only in the sponsors, but also in the speakers and the topics that are going to be talked. You'll find some speakers and even some sponsors definitely lean more Western medicine, right? More mainstream that we how we know as Americans, I believe yours is an international show.
But, you know, it's kind of mainstream Western medicine. They lean more that direction. But they are they're now open to hearing some ways to integrate the long running Eastern medicine that has a lot of backing and history and science in sort of these out of the box ways to deal with things such as diabetes, ADHD. ADHD, things as terrible as cancer, Crohn's disease, all of those different things that sadly people face.
They really empower their attendees to broaden their perspective with regards to the approach, that it doesn't have to be sort of an in-the-box approach. That might not be the best for them, but they can go beyond that and find the strategies that really will get them the results that they're looking for. It's just a huge conference, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, with an optional Saturday event, right? So it's a three-day event, but fourth day is like a bonus for those that want to attend or stay.
May 31st through June 3rd, or again, June 4th, if they choose that option. And I believe 150 speakers, is that right? That last count, I think that was right. Yeah, I think it's a little bit more than that.
But what's neat is there's an agenda for each day and you clearly see what the topics are and who the speakers are. Some of the speakers are offering CEU credit. So if that's something that's of interest, then you know that you'd want to see that speaker. Some are virtual, some are in person. So it really has something for everyone.
You will not walk away the same person. So, for instance, if you're more concerned about your child's health, there is unlocking secrets of your nervous system to cultivate calm in stressful situations. Well, every child, if they're facing a test or they're facing first day of school, whatever it is, you want those tools to be able to help them calm themselves in difficult situations. And as a parent, there's going to be high stress days, right?
You want to be able to right on the spot, have those tools to create some calm in the moment. So that's one of the speakers. Another one, holistic treatments for depression and anxiety. There's a speaker that's going to be focused on gut health.
Of course, I can't go through all 150 plus, but there is no way that you can attend this event and leave it without being enlightened in a big way. and lots of media attention around this event. So let's talk about the producers of the event. Tell us a little bit about them.
Yeah, so the producers of the event are Celeste Miranda and Gracie Marino. They not only produce this event, there's a sister event to it that is produced in the fall. It's October in Los Angeles. So this one is in Orlando, May 31st through June 4th.
And then there's another one in Los Angeles. And this event came about because Celeste actually deals with a chronic situation herself. And she wanted answers beyond Western medicine. But she wanted evidence-based solutions.
She did not want to be a guinea pig or feel like she was experimenting on herself. So just through a series of doing that, she discovered that there were a lot of other people looking for more integrative solutions for things that they were facing. She teamed up with Gracie, who is an incredible marketer, and she leans more Eastern medicine. And as a team, they produce these events.
As the PR manager for the event, they have given me the fun opportunity to give a certain number of tickets away. And I've chosen No Problem Parenting as one of those locations where we're going to give away two tickets to the event. The tickets right now on the early bird is $200, right? They go up from here.
It's all access ticket. Definitely an incredible value for what you get. You can attend, again, some of it virtually or on location. However, even if these tickets were $1,000, the life-changing benefits that you would get would be, they'd still be a value because of the life-changing information that you receive.
Right. And there are options to upgrade the tickets. You can get a VIP, an ultimate VIP. You do get to, there's vendors, there's hundreds of vendors, and that's part of it.
The VIP ticket, there's a special dinner. There are some special breakout sessions. some added benefits and some other smaller kind of more intimate groups that you get to go into if you get the VIP ticket. The tickets I think go up to after early bird $750 depending on what you're getting. Okay. So May 31st through June 3rd, if you want to win the tickets, I'm going to have you do one of two things. You can either go into iTunes, No Problem Parenting podcast and leave us a review and a comment and say, I love episode 145. I want tickets. You can put it right there in the comments, or you can take a screenshot of this episode, share it on your social media, and make sure that you tag No Problem Parents at No Problem Parents on the social media. And that way I'll know that you have done that. And those people will be registered. And I'm going to give the tickets away on May 12th. I'll announce the winner of those tickets. Then I'm going to reach out to the winners. I will get your email address, put you in contact with Antonia. And if for some reason you are unable to attend locally or it just doesn't work in your schedule, she can give you access to the fall event. And that way you'll have more time to get your tail over to Los Angeles.
So that's good. Okay. So yeah, thank you so much for sharing all the information about that event. And again, I will have some more info in the show notes of this episode. I have a question for you because Antonia, you are the founder of Wellness Productions. Talk a little bit about your career and what interested you so much in niching down to production specifically on wealth.
Wealth works too, health and wellness. Yeah, it actually started really young. I was diagnosed with cancer as a young, very young teen, and they caught the cancer too late. So they essentially were sending me home to get comfortable and say my goodbyes. Thankfully, a team of university doctors got wind of this young girl being sent home with no hope and decided to experiment on me, do some integrative therapies on me. So I was shipped hundreds of miles away from my family.
and began doing this alternative treatment. It worked, right? Obviously, I'm here. Right. And I'm so thankful for it. But I remember going through the process and that I was in the hospital in this children's hospital for a year straight and then a year on and off after that, very far away from my family. My mom was a single mom, so I didn't have the luxury of having my family come and visit me. So those children became my family. And during that time, the lucky children whose cancers were caught on time to get the quote unquote right treatment, they would come in looking like a normal kid, just like me. Right. I was relegated to a wheelchair.
I didn't walk for two years. I had to relearn how to walk, but at least I kept my hair. My face wasn't swollen. My gums weren't purple. It didn't hurt to eat. I wasn't moaning at night. I wasn't in the kind of agony that they were in. And I remember thinking as a kid, virtually a kid, why weren't their parents told there were maybe some other things they could try first before they did that? Of course, in my young mind, I didn't realize that they wouldn't experiment on a child who might have the ability to overcome their cancer in the mainstream way.
They would only experiment on a child who was terminal and there was no hope for them. Right. Who was me at that point at that point? Sadly, many of those kids that became my family did not make it.
Of course, back then, I didn't realize that they were just transferred to another area, which I now understand was ICU. And in following up, realized that they they never got to see the rest of their life like I did. So every morning I wake up and it's for their faces and their voices that didn't get to get heard that I do my work for. So very young, I knew that this was going to be my path.
And I myself became a young single mom. So I went straight into the most practical degree to get in college. And that was business management, computer information systems. But with that and marketing, marketing and PR was my secondary.
so with that everything that I did had health and well-being in mind and just getting the message that there are there are choices there are options be proactive right and so right out of college I got an internship with an international magazine and then right right out of that I began doing marketing for fitness centers and rehab centers that worked into me opening a bed and breakfast which worked into me opening two retreat centers, which became small health and wellness retreats and events and workshops, which grew like I had people standing outside on the deck trying.
So then I would rent little community rooms, outgrew that. And then it became a full blown where I was renting full blown convention centers. I'm the founder and former producer of the Texas this natural wellness expos, very, very large wellness expo. Absolutely love doing that.
But what I realized is my impact stopped at the number of events I could produce in a year. And these events take a lot out of you, right, as you can imagine. So I began representing speakers in the health, well-being, and optimum performance spaces. And I'm now a speaker agent in those industries.
And I know that through their voices, I can impact countless millions upon millions of people just so that they can find the solutions that they're looking for, find the outside of the box answers that are actually the better answers for them. I was going to interrupt you maybe three times because you've got me in just that last few minutes. I'm like, wow, first of all, what a wonderful thing for you to be thinking about those kiddos who didn't get to continue their path on earth and that you just keep to keep them in your mind.
But then now I totally get it why this kind of production event, this kind of the health and wellness is your niche. So thank you for sharing that story with me, because I just I always love to find out how and why people are in the niche that they're in. And then just your journey through. I mean, you went through it pretty quick, but it's like I feel you.
It's kind of similar with me. You know, I always felt so great and proud of the work that I did in the places, you know, the things that I did and all that I learned and gained from my experiences. But I just knew I had to do something on my own and kind of had my own way that I wanted to do things. And that's really when, when and why I started Hello World as well.
So yeah, that's super cool. Right. You first do it for yourself and then you want to do it for other people. Right.
And that's where the raising healthy kids in a McDonald's world is important to me because Like I said, I became a single mom pretty young and didn't have a lot of funds back then, but I knew I wanted to raise him healthy. We were very active socially. He was in soccer and it was always, you know, Whataburger after soccer, all the things. And I just came up with tips and ways, strategies to at least decrease the junk and increase that satiation and desire for the healthier options.
Did you say a water burger? Have you ever heard of water burger? No. Oh, that's like the McDonald's of Texas. Like water burgers is the place. I thought you were saying water, like drink water.
I'm like, Oh, you're just pretending to get a burger, but you're drinking a glass of water instead, honey. Okay, mom. You need a lot of water. Cause it's very salty after you eat a water burger. Well, and you were saying soccer. So I'm like, of course kids are drinking a lot when they're running around and playing soccer, but Oh my gosh, a water burger. That's awesome.
and see what you learn when you meet with people outside of your region. Obviously, there are times when we're going to eat the crap because that's all that's available and it's just easier and whatever else. But it's finding ways to be prepared so that we don't have to eat that stuff. So what are a couple of tips or tools for parents listening today?
Well, you just struck on the one major one. And actually, my doctor, who's a more natural leaning doctor, he gives this advice. And I live by it. First of all, I am a believer that too many electronics do have an effect on us.
But I am in the kind of career where I'm going to be around electronics all the time. He said our bodies are are fearfully and wonderfully made. Right. We are incredibly made. If we just give it a little bit of leg up, it's going to do the rest of the work.
So he asked me to set my timer every hour to get up, get outside, just give me give myself just a quick reset so that I can get back and my body is now, all my cells are going to bat and working for me. If I were to just sit here for eight hours, 10 hours, which can easily happen a lot of times, I never give my body the chance to reset. And this was the same for my son. We would go to these different events.
I just knew in our home, for the most part, at least 80%, I would strive for 100, but let's just be honest, 80 percent um fruit was candy until he was went to grade school he really believed that fruit was candy but fruit was candy um i we ate healthy in the home my my pantry was healthy my refrigerator was healthy and uh we cooked our meals right but when we're out and about i was not going to be military on him. But because our taste buds are incredible, our taste buds are incredibly powerful.
If, if we feed ourselves healthy foods, for the most part, when you go out and you have something unhealthy, you don't have that insatiable desire for it. Like it's almost either too sweet or too salty, or just not as appealing to you. So it's about the balance more than anything else. Just give yourself a leg up, give your children a leg up and allow your systems and your body to do the rest. Right. They'll start to crave the foods that they eat at home. And I know, you know, we're the same way as sort of everything in moderation kind of idea, but at home we mostly eat healthy. But I agree. It's like what you eat on a regular basis, you end up craving the other stuff doesn't really necessarily taste as good. It doesn't take much for our taste buds to change. So if it's like, oh, I hate, I hate avocado or I hate that whatever healthy thing,
or your kid's like, I cannot eat broccoli. I'm going to throw up. And they're going through all their drama. I just encourage that they at least try it four times.
And then if they still hate it after four times, okay, we'll go to something else. We'll go to bell peppers, you know, whatever. But it's true that the more, the healthier you eat, that becomes what your taste buds want and enjoy. And apple becomes sweeter.
when we superimpose all of these artificial sweeteners and flavorings onto our taste buds, you almost need hyper foods to even satisfy you. As you begin eliminating those or at least reducing those, then a simple apple or a simple piece of chicken with some broccoli or a side salad that becomes so, so satiating to you. It's a true thing. It doesn't take much in order to grow yourself or in order to grow your child. There's going to be a little bit of discomfort. There's always going to be discomfort and growth. Just do it for a little bit and trust that your body is going to do the work for you the rest of the way.
Right. And I always say the parents be matter of fact about it. If a kid's like, I can't take it and I don't want it. They start to throw a fit. You don't have to be super reactive about that. You can be like, oh, I know it's hard to try new things. Exactly. It's hard to try new things, but you don't have to get like all upset and stressed out that they're not eating it right away. We'll try again tomorrow or, you know, like you don't have to, we don't have to force it. So that's another podcast episode, right? The other thing I like about what you said is movement and like getting so focused on your work that you forget to take the breaks. You can get so invested in your work and love your work so much that sometimes you forget to take a break. And so setting the timer is a good idea. And your blood pools and your oxygen level decreases. And this,
this is the same for children who are playing video games too much, or they're watching TV too much on a cellular level, they are degrading. So all they need is just get a little sunshine, get a little fresh air, walk around the house a couple of times, write whatever, just to reset your system. It's very, very powerful. It seems simplistic, like surely that can't make a big difference. It makes all the difference.
Well, I have a fun hack for getting your kids to move while they're gaming too, which is have some kind of a, just a piece of paper inside the pantry in the kitchen or on the inside garage wall. So they have to run after a game when they finish a level, they need to stop, run out and mark that level down on that sheet of paper with the time that they completed it, which gives them a kind of a cool log as well, if they pass the level or if they failed or whatever it was, but they have to, after each one, go write it down, which helps engage the parent in the gaming as well. And, you know, cause sometimes as parents, we just don't, we're not interested in the games our kids are playing. So we just kind of like they're out of sight, out of mind,
but it does, it's a twofer, you know, it gets the kid going and moving. And then you're going to check to see how many levels or how many times it took them to pass the level. So now you're going to engage with them about their gaming as well. And I just think that's fun. I really, really love that. That is really fun. Another technique that adults often use, but I haven't seen many people use it for kids, but I find it really powerful is the Pomodoro technique.
Are you familiar with that one? No, say it again. Pomodoro. Essentially what that is, it's a concentrated time of focus, whether it's 30 minutes, 60 minutes or 90 minutes where a timer is set for that concentrated time.
And then once that timer goes off, there's a 15 minute reprieve. There is science. It's science. It's a science backed technique where productivity wise and satiation wise, you really get it feels like you've done three hours versus just that maybe hour and a half.
and essentially you set a timer everything else gets kind of turned off blocked off and you focus on whether it's a chore or a game homework whatever it might be you do that thing and then you get a 15 minute reward after well if it's in the reverse if it's say video gaming that's already their reward right they do they're allowed 60 minutes or 90 minutes however whatever you set. And then when the timer goes off, 15 minute chore, right? It could be used in the reverse. Very, very powerful technique. That is cool. That is super cool. And I've done things where it's like, however long it takes you to do your chore is how long you get to play.
Now think about that because kids want to rush through their chores. So it's like, okay, set your timer. How long does it take you to do this chore? They rush through it. They get the chore done in five minutes, but it's not really done, right?
The dishes don't look good. They're still slimy or the, you know, there's still crumbs on the floor. They didn't get the sweeping or the vacuuming completely done. They just went through really fast to say, I'm done.
Or they picked up their room, but it's not really picked up. Well, if you say you get to spend as much time on your game as you spent on your chore. I have a feeling they're going to do a better job on the chore, right? They're going to spend a little bit more time on that chore.
Yeah, I think I might use that for myself. as much time as I spend on my work, I get to go spend playing. So, but I also do like that focus time. Um, I think there's a lot of downtime or wasted time. Um, we don't even like to admit it or see it, but we get, because of all the notifications, the distractions, you know, I've moved my apps, like all my social media is on the second page of my mobile phone. It's not my cell phone. It's not right on that front page where I see the notifications or you turn the notifications off because the minute you see it, you're distracted. Yeah. Now you're in there.
Now you're responding to something else and you're getting, you know, so I like this. I'm going to check out the Pomodoro technique as well. We may share that one with listeners too, or their parent group. Well, let's see any other tips you want to share.
I think don't be too hard on yourself, right? And don't be too hard on your kids. They're going to be at birthday parties. They don't want to be the one not eating the brownie, right? So we've already tackled this. It's about balance. And if you're giving your kids the love for fruits and vegetables, first and foremost, like have them eat the colors of real life foods, then they're going to grow a love for that. And it starts young and goes big. So yeah, they might have a brownie or a cupcake, but they're not going to go all crazy on it because the more junk you eat, the more junk your body wants. So there's that balance. And then there's the balance of how your time is utilized, how their time is utilized. So there's nutrition and then there's just lifestyle. In the same way, let's just make sure they're not sitting on that couch too much. Let's give them these fun timer games and tricks and tips where, yeah, they get to do the video games.
are, it has a place in this world now, right? It's, we can't really isolate them from that. So allow that, but in moderation, you're not only training them to self-regulate, but also in life, in the bigger picture of life, that there's a balance and there's a rhythm to everything to live a healthy life, right? Yep, absolutely. I wholeheartedly agree. We can, we crave what we are told we can't have, even if we never really wanted it in the first place or didn't care for it that much. Well, you know, we'll crave it just to, to bring on that battle.
Sometimes it's so silly how, how our minds work or, uh, you know, but, but, uh, let's, let's, if we're drill sergeant, if we're being the drill sergeant for our kids, we're going to have a lot more battles, um, especially the kids, those strong-willed kiddos that really, um, they want to be independent. And so they're going to fight more for the control. Okay. So your company, All right, Antonia, your company is called Wellness Productions.
